what is a makerspace?

Our library is filled with tools and toys to make you think. This is a place for the designer, the dreamer, the engineer, the builder, the investigator, the scientist, the tinker-er--whoever you are or hope to be--to stretch your understanding of how things work and master new challenges! What can you create that makes the world a better place?

What is on the makerspace menu?

• Cricut Maker cutting machine
• origami

• K'nex
• building blocks
• Lego
• Keva planks
• art cart
• 3-D printer (talk to a librarian to request print time)
• straws and connectors
• puzzles and games
• maker books
• knitting and crochet

When can these things be used?

• Anyone is welcome to use items from the makerspace during public hours or by special permission from the supervising classroom teacher.
• Students in grades 7-12 who are in good academic standing and have no other pressing obligations can come with a pass to the library for the free-study portion of SRB. 
• Classroom teachers can reserve the makerspace for special classroom connections. Please contact a librarian.
• Elementary students may have opportunities to utilize makerspace materials during their library skills classes. 

A good library will never be too neat, or too dusty, because somebody will always be in it, taking books off the shelves and staying up late reading them.
